Four runways: 9/27 at 13,016 ft (3,967 m), which is the longest public-use runway in Florida, 8R/26L at 10,506 ft (3,202 m), 12/30 at 9,360 ft (2,853 m) and 8L/26R at 8,600 ft (2,621 m). MIA handled 55,926,566 passengers in 2024 against 52,340,934 in 2023, with 420,856 aircraft operations recorded in 2023 and an economic impact of 35.3 billion dollars supporting 221,966 jobs. Private aviation is possible but secondary to airline traffic: Signature operates the private aviation terminal with roughly 20,000 sq ft of hangar space and parking for up to 150 aircraft, and applies event pricing and an in-house PPR reservation system during peaks such as Art Basel. Most charter clients use Opa Locka instead for cost and turnaround reasons; MIA suits long-range international arrivals that need full airline-grade CBP capacity.

Two runways: 9/27 at 6,002 ft by 100 ft (1,829 m) with ILS, and 13/31 at 4,000 ft by 100 ft (1,219 m). FXE is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the country: the airport describes itself as the eighth busiest GA centre in the United States with over 150,000 operations a year, while the Florida DOT profile records 172,932 operations in 2023, 571 based aircraft, four FBOs, over 200,000 annual visitor arrivals and an economic impact of 3.9 billion dollars of output supporting 22,959 jobs. It also hosts Foreign Trade Zone 241 with on-site CBP. FBOs are Signature Aviation, Banyan Air Service, Atlantic Aviation and W Aviation; Banyan is a 24 hour FBO with no landing fees, hangar space up to Gulfstream G650, a HondaJet authorised sales and service centre and the Jet Runway Cafe. FXE is the practical choice for clients heading to Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and Palm Beach, and a useful overflow field when Opa Locka fills during Miami events.

Three runways: 9R/27L at 6,000 ft (1,829 m), 9L/27R at 5,003 ft (1,525 m) and 13/31 at about 4,001 ft (1,220 m). TMB is extremely busy but training-heavy: 272,797 annual operations were recorded for 2023 per FAA data, with the Florida DOT profile giving 272,742 operations and 389 based aircraft. FBO services are provided by Signature Aviation and Advanced Aircraft Center. Because of the flight-training mix and limited customs hours, TMB works best for domestic light and midsize movements to south Miami-Dade, the Kendall corridor and the Keys rather than international arrivals. What to know before you book
→Opa-Locka (OPF) is one of the busiest general-aviation airports in the United States and the default for Miami private aviation. Three runways, deep FBO coverage with Signature, Fontainebleau Aviation and Jetscape, and the natural base for anything from a Citation up to a G650.
→Miami International (MIA) is heavily commercial but does handle private jets. It is used mainly when a same-airport connection to a commercial flight matters or when the itinerary specifically calls for MIA. Signature and other handlers cover the private side.
→Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) is 45 km north and closer to the Palm Beach corridor. It is popular with operators servicing the Boca Raton and Palm Beach markets and has full FBO coverage including Banyan and Sheltair.
→Miami Executive (TMB), formerly Kendall-Tamiami, is the smaller GA field to the south-west. It handles light jets and turboprops and is closer to the southern Miami-Dade market. Runway length limits it to lighter aircraft.
→Art Basel week in early December and the F1 Miami Grand Prix in early May are the two biggest single-event demand peaks. Ramp space at all four airports is tight in those weeks and quotes reflect it. Book earlier than usual for those windows.
Empty legs
Repositioning flights from Miami
Miami's private-aviation demand peaks around Art Basel Miami in early December and the F1 Miami Grand Prix in early May. Beyond those events, the traffic is heavily seasonal with the November to April high season taking most of the volume. The corridors that generate the most empty legs are Miami to New York year round, Miami to Los Angeles and Chicago on the transcontinental routes, and Miami to Nassau, Havana and the Caribbean on the short-hop side. Flexible dates on those routes save 40-70% against on-demand.

FAQ
Charter from Miami, questions we get
Which Miami airport do private jets use?
Opa-Locka (OPF) is the default and one of the busiest general-aviation airports in the US. Miami International (MIA), Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) and Miami Executive (TMB) are alternates for specific itineraries.
How far is Opa-Locka from downtown Miami?
About 15 km north-west, typically 20 to 30 minutes by road. That is closer than most people expect for the region's primary bizav base, and it is one of the reasons OPF is the natural choice for a Miami trip.
Which FBOs operate at Opa-Locka?
Signature Flight Support, Fontainebleau Aviation and Jetscape all operate full FBOs on the field. It is one of the deepest handler ecosystems in the United States and the choice depends on the operator you charter with.
How long is Miami to New York by private jet?
About 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours block time on a light or midsize jet. It is one of the highest-volume domestic US private corridors and empty-leg availability on it is very good year round.
When is peak private-aviation season in Miami?
November through April is the high season generally. The two biggest single-event peaks are Art Basel Miami in early December and the F1 Miami Grand Prix in early May. Ramp space is tight in those weeks and quotes reflect it.
Should I fly into MIA or Opa-Locka?
Opa-Locka in almost all cases. MIA is heavily commercial with slot congestion and a ramp not built for private-jet turnarounds. OPF has the runways, the handlers and the parking capacity for business aviation.
What does Miami to London cost on a private jet?
Roughly 85,000 to 110,000 USD on a heavy jet, at about 8 hours block time eastbound. An ultra-long-range aircraft is often preferred and priced from around 100,000 USD upwards for the additional cabin comfort on the sector.
Can I fly to the Bahamas from Miami by private jet?
Yes, and it is one of the busiest short-hop corridors in the region. Nassau is 30 to 40 minutes on a light jet and out-island destinations like Exuma, Eleuthera and the Abacos are direct-jet capable depending on the specific field.
Market notes
On chartering from Miami
Opa-Locka is the busiest general-aviation airport most people outside the private-aviation industry have never heard of. It sits 15 km north-west of downtown Miami with three runways, the longest at 2,440 m, and it handles a huge share of the region's business-jet traffic. Signature Flight Support, Fontainebleau Aviation and Jetscape all operate full FBOs on the field, and the handler ecosystem is one of the deepest in the United States.
Miami International handles private jets but is not the natural first choice. The airport is dominated by commercial traffic and slot congestion, and its ramp is not built for private-jet turnarounds in the way OPF's is. That said, when an itinerary calls for MIA specifically, or when a commercial connection matters, the private side is well-serviced through Signature and other handlers.
Fort Lauderdale Executive is the other important base. It is 45 km north of downtown Miami and closer to the Boca Raton and Palm Beach corridor, and it has full FBO coverage through Banyan and Sheltair. For a passenger who lives or is staying north of central Miami, FXE can save 30 to 60 minutes of ground transfer. It handles the full business-jet range up to heavy at typical mission weights.
The two biggest demand peaks are Art Basel Miami in early December and the F1 Miami Grand Prix in early May. Art Basel is the older, more established event and it fills every FBO on the field. F1 is newer but is producing genuine bizav peaks around the Hard Rock Stadium circuit weekend. Ramp space at all four airports is tight in those weeks and quotes reflect it. This is a legitimate case for booking earlier than usual.
