Overview

The Bombardier Global 5000 at a glance

The Global 5000 is chosen for three missions. First, transatlantic work at speed, with London to New York in about seven and a half hours at Mach 0.88 rather than Mach 0.80. Second, cabin altitude, since 4,500 ft at FL450 measurably reduces fatigue against 8,000 ft on a Hawker or Citation. Third, cabin width, with 2.49 m allowing three distinct zones and a real bed. Against a Falcon 7X it burns more fuel at about 480 gph and needs 1,690 m of runway.

Questions

Bombardier Global 5000 FAQ

How many passengers can the Global 5000 seat?
Thirteen in the usual three-zone charter layout, with certified configurations up to sixteen and nineteen. Sleeping capacity is six to eight depending on divan and berthing arrangement.
What is the Global 5000 hourly charter rate?
European operators quote 8,000 to 12,000 EUR per hour ex-tax. North-American rates run 9,500 to 15,000 USD per hour, with most brokers publishing 9,950 to 14,000 USD as the standard band.
How much does a Global 5000 cost?
List price was about 50.44 million USD at the end of production. Pre-owned aircraft run 10 to 36 million USD, with early Primus 2000XP airframes at the bottom and post-2012 Bombardier Vision aircraft at the top.
What does it cost to own and operate a Global 5000?
Fixed costs run about 700,000 to 950,000 USD per year. Variable costs are 4,500 to 5,800 USD per flight hour at roughly 480 gallons per hour. Budget 800,000 to 1.2 million USD for a major inspection and about 4 million USD for a pair of BR710 overhauls.
How many crew does the Global 5000 need?
Two pilots plus one cabin attendant on charter operations. On transpacific legs some operators carry a third pilot to stay inside duty limits.
Where is the Global 5000 built?
Bombardier built the wing and fuselage sections in Canada and the United Kingdom, with assembly at Toronto and interior completion at Montreal. Rolls-Royce supplied the BR710 engines from Dahlewitz, Germany.
When did the Global 5000 first fly?
The Global 5000 flew on 7 March 2003, following the February 2002 programme launch. It derives from the Global Express, which received Canadian type certification in July 1998.
Is the Global 5000 still in production?
No. Bombardier replaced it with the Global 5500, announced in 2018 with Pearl 15 engines and more range. More than 230 Global 5000s were produced and about 218 remain in operation, so the charter fleet is large and well supported.
What engines does the Global 5000 use?
Two Rolls-Royce BR710A2-20 turbofans producing 14,750 lbf each. The same core family powers the Gulfstream G550 and the Global 6000, which keeps overhaul capacity and lease engines available worldwide.
How does the Global 5000 compare to a Dassault Falcon 7X?
The Falcon 7X is a trijet with fly-by-wire controls, better fuel burn and a 1,600 m field length, plus approval for tighter approaches. The Global 5000 has a wider 2.49 m cabin against 2.34 m, a lower 4,500 ft cabin altitude and a faster Mach 0.88 high-speed cruise. Choose the Falcon for airport access and economy, the Global for cabin and block time.
Can the Global 5000 use short runways?
Within limits. It needs about 1,690 m for takeoff at MTOW but stops in 673 m. London City is not permitted, and Aspen or St Moritz require performance-limited planning with reduced fuel.
What is the baggage capacity?
5,522 litres or about 195 cubic feet in an aft compartment accessible in flight, among the largest holds in the heavy-jet class.
