Yerevan to Moscow by class

1,804 km north is well inside the range of a midsize jet, so the recommendation is not about distance. Zvartnots sits at 865 m and summer afternoons are hot, which costs take-off performance, and the routing across the Caucasus and southern Russia is frequently adjusted at short notice. A super-midsize covers both problems: it departs at full cabin without a payload discussion and it carries fuel for a longer track than the one filed.

Midsize jet
Direct with a normal load, and the most commonly quoted class on the corridor. Check the performance figures rather than assuming a full cabin on a hot afternoon departure from an 865 m field. Armenian registrations appear frequently in this class because EAEU membership removes the customs step that catches third-country aircraft on legs inside the union.

Super-midsize Best value
Recommended. Direct with reserves and no payload compromise out of Zvartnots in summer. The efficient answer for four to eight passengers. Demand on the Moscow to Yerevan and Baku pairings grew about 52 percent across 2024 and 2025, so confirmed dates beat held options.

Heavy jet
For larger parties, delegations and family groups. The 3,850 m runway at Zvartnots gives generous margin even at summer density altitude, which is why heavy jets appear here more often than the distance implies. Delegation and family group traffic is the usual reason it gets booked, and those parties compete for the same small eligible pool.

Booked when the aircraft continues onward from Moscow or stays with the party for a longer itinerary. Range is not the reason to choose it on a three hour sector. As everywhere on this corridor family, the number reflects what the airframe can and cannot do after Moscow rather than the block time.

Yerevan departures

EVN
Yerevan Zvartnots International

The only realistic departure for Yerevan. Single runway 08/26 at 3,850 m by 56 m with ILS CAT II on runway 08, allowing operations to a 30 m ceiling and 300 m visibility, at 865 m field elevation. Taxiway A was rebuilt and returned to service in 2025 after decades out of use, which the operator expects to raise movement capacity by about 35 percent. Traffic was 5,615,789 passengers in 2025.

No purpose-built FBO building. Business aviation passengers are processed by the appointed agent, with Zvartnots Handling, Airbacker, VIP Aviation Armenia and RusAero Yerevan all active, and a separate government delegation terminal for state movements
LWN
Gyumri Shirak

Armenia's second international airport, 3,200 m runway at about 1,550 m elevation, roughly 120 km north-west of Yerevan. Handling is available through the same agents. Useful as a weather alternate or when business sits in the north, but the road transfer makes it a poor substitute for Zvartnots on a Moscow departure.

Moscow arrivals

VKO
Moscow Vnukovo

The default business-aviation arrival for Moscow. Two intersecting runways, 06/24 at 3,500 m with ILS CAT II and 01/19 at 3,060 m with ILS CAT I. Vnukovo-3, operated by VIPPORT, is one of the largest dedicated business-aviation centres in Europe, with roughly 560,000 sq m of apron and capacity for about 150 aircraft.

SVO
Moscow Sheremetyevo

Terminal A, run by A-Group, is the second real business-aviation FBO in Moscow, about 30 minutes from the centre via the M-11 with its own hangars and de-icing. The sensible choice when the passenger's destination is north of the city.

OSF
Ostafyevo International Business Airport

Gazpromavia's business airport south of Moscow, runway 08/26 at 2,058 m by 48 m with PCN 24, suited to midsize and lighter heavy aircraft rather than a fully loaded Global. International throughput is 40 passengers per hour. A useful alternate when Vnukovo-3 parking is full.

FAQ

Common questions on this route

How long is the flight from Yerevan to Moscow by private jet?
About 2h 50m direct on a super-midsize and 2h 55m on a midsize. Actual times run longer than the great-circle figure because the routing across southern Russia is adjusted frequently and because of Moscow terminal-area restrictions on arrival.
Can Western operators fly Yerevan to Moscow?
Generally no. EU, UK and US measures restrict flights connected to Russian persons and entities, and operators based in those jurisdictions keep their fleets out of Russian airspace. The aircraft that fly this corridor are Armenian, Russian, CIS or Middle East based.
What does Yerevan to Moscow cost?
Super-midsize aircraft run 42,000 to 58,000 USD one way, midsize 32,000 to 45,000 and heavy jets 55,000 to 75,000. The eligible fleet is small and insurance treatment varies between operators, so pricing is less stable than on a comparable three hour sector elsewhere.
Which Moscow airport do private jets use?
Vnukovo (VKO), specifically the Vnukovo-3 business aviation centre run by VIPPORT, which is the largest facility of its kind in Russia. Sheremetyevo Terminal A, run by A-Group, and Ostafyevo (OSF) are the practical alternates, and Domodedovo has a business aviation centre operated by UTG Private Aviation.
Is Russian airspace safe to fly into?
EASA advises against operating in Russian airspace west of 60 degrees East at all flight levels, first issued in January 2025 and since extended into 2027. The whole Russian portion of this track sits inside that area. Italy prohibits its operators from the Rostov FIR outright and France advises a 200 NM standoff from the Ukrainian border. Operators still flying do so under their own risk assessments.
What about insurance?
War-risk cover for Russian destinations is restricted and some underwriters decline it. Any quote should state explicitly what cover is in place, and that is worth establishing before comparing prices between operators.
Why do Armenian-registered aircraft fly this route so often?
Because Armenia is an EAEU member. Foreign-registered aircraft need EAEU customs clearance for legs inside the union, and Armenian registrations sit inside it, so RA-registered aircraft avoid that friction. Sanctions and KYC screening still apply to every enquiry, whatever the registration.
Does the airport elevation change the aircraft recommendation?
Yes. Zvartnots is at 865 m and hot afternoons raise density altitude further, which reduces available take-off weight. A midsize jet can end up payload restricted on a full-cabin three hour sector, which is why a super-midsize or heavy jet is specified from Yerevan more often than the distance suggests. Taxiway A returning to service in 2025 has eased ground movement and sequencing at Zvartnots, but it does nothing for take-off performance, which remains a weight and temperature calculation on the day.
