Two intersecting runways: 06/24 at 3,500 m by 60 m with ILS CAT II, and 01/19 at 3,060 m with ILS CAT I. Vnukovo-3, the business aviation centre operated by VIPPORT, is the default arrival and departure point for private aircraft in Moscow and one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe, with apron area of roughly 560,000 sq m and capacity for about 150 aircraft. It handles and stores more than 250 aircraft including helicopters. Vnukovo overall carried 16.1 million passengers in 2024, an 11 percent increase, with foreign carriers accounting for about 64 percent of traffic in 2025 and the airport targeting 16.5 million for the full year. Business-jet volume tells a different story: Vnukovo's co-owner has said daily movements at Vnukovo-3 run at 30 to 40 against 120 to 130 before February 2022. In 2021, its strongest recent year, the terminal served 17,340 flights and 105,800 passengers, about 65 percent of them international.

Runway 08/26 at 2,058 m by 48 m with PCN 24/R/C/X/T, which is the real constraint here: the pavement classification and runway length suit light, midsize and lighter heavy aircraft rather than a fully loaded Global or G650. Owned by Gazpromavia and operated jointly with the Russian Ministry of Defence, Ostafyevo has held international business airport status since 2007. Terminal throughput is quoted at 70 passengers per hour on domestic flights and 40 per hour on international. There is Falcon-certified maintenance capability on the field. It is a genuine alternate when Vnukovo-3 parking is unavailable, and it is closer to the southern suburbs than Vnukovo is.

Terminal A, operated by A-Group, is Moscow's second real business aviation FBO after Vnukovo-3. It has its own hangars, de-icing capability and apron, and the Novikov Gallery restaurant on site. Runway lengths at Sheremetyevo are around 3,700 m, so there is no aircraft-type limitation. The M-11 toll road makes the ground leg predictable at around 30 minutes off-peak, which is the main reason to choose SVO over VKO when the passenger's destination is north or north-west of the city.

Two runways at 3,793 m and 3,500 m. UTG Private Aviation has run the Business Aviation Center at Domodedovo since April 2021, with a 770 sq m VIP terminal, three hangars totalling about 8,000 sq m, an apron of more than 17,000 sq m and roughly 20 stands, open around the clock. The furthest of the four from the centre, so it is chosen for hangarage, maintenance and parking rather than ground-time convenience.

Closed. Not available for civil operations.

Bykovo still appears in airport databases and in older charter listings, which is why clients sometimes ask about it. It is not an option. Scheduled operations ceased on 18 October 2010, the airport was removed from the State Register of Civil Aerodromes in June 2011, the passenger terminal has been demolished and the site is now used for warehousing, with the field retained only as a helipad. Anyone quoting you a Bykovo arrival is working from stale data.

What to know before you book

Empty legs

Repositioning flights from Moscow

Moscow's private traffic peaks over the New Year holidays in late December and early January, the May holidays, and the summer season from June to September when Turkish and Caucasus leisure routes fill. The corridors that generate the most empty legs are Moscow to Dubai year round, Moscow to Istanbul and Antalya in summer, Moscow to Sochi in both winter and summer, and Moscow to St Petersburg constantly. Flexible dates on those routes save 40-70 percent against on-demand, though the pool of aircraft is smaller than it was before 2022 and empty legs appear with less notice.

FAQ

Charter from Moscow, questions we get

Which airport do private jets use in Moscow?
Vnukovo (VKO), specifically the Vnukovo-3 business aviation centre operated by VIPPORT. It is the largest facility of its kind in Russia and one of the largest in Europe, with roughly 560,000 sq m of apron and space for about 150 aircraft. Sheremetyevo Terminal A, Ostafyevo and Domodedovo are the alternates.
Is Bykovo (BKA) still open?
No. Bykovo ceased operations on 18 October 2010 and was removed from the State Register of Civil Aerodromes in June 2011. The terminal was demolished and the site is used for warehousing. It still shows up in airport databases, which is the only reason it is still mentioned.
Can I fly privately from Moscow to Europe?
Not on a Russian-registered or Russian-controlled aircraft. EU, UK and US airspace is closed to those, and the EU prohibition also captures non-scheduled flights where a Russian person or entity determines the take-off or landing. In practice, travel from Moscow to Western Europe is done via a connection point such as Istanbul, Yerevan, Baku or Dubai, with a separate aircraft on the second leg.
What does a private jet from Moscow to Dubai cost?
Heavy jets run $68,000-90,000 one-way for the 3,686 km sector, about 5 hours block. Super-midsize aircraft that make it direct are $52,000-68,000. Pricing on this corridor is less stable than comparable sectors elsewhere because the eligible fleet is small.
Is it safe to fly into Russian airspace?
EASA advises against operating in Russian airspace west of 60 degrees East at all flight levels, a recommendation issued in January 2025 and extended since. Several European states have matching notices. Operators still flying the corridor do so under their own risk assessments, and we will tell you which regulator has said what before you book rather than after.
How busy is Vnukovo-3 now?
Much quieter than it was. Vnukovo's co-owner has put daily business-jet movements at 30 to 40, against 120 to 130 before February 2022. Parking and apron space are consequently easy to obtain, but the choice of operators and aircraft types is narrower.
How far is Vnukovo from central Moscow?
About 28 km south-west, which makes it the closest of the main Moscow airports to the city. Sheremetyevo is roughly 30 km north-west and typically 30 minutes via the M-11. Domodedovo is about 45 km south-east and the longest ground leg of the four.
What about winter operations?
Moscow winters are cold and snowy, and de-icing is a routine cost rather than an exception between November and March. Vnukovo's main runway has ILS CAT II and Sheremetyevo Terminal A has its own de-icing, so low visibility rarely stops operations outright, but it does add turn-time and it does add to the invoice.
Market notes

On chartering from Moscow

Vnukovo-3 remains the centre of gravity for Russian business aviation. Around 560,000 sq m of apron, capacity for roughly 150 aircraft, and more than 250 aircraft handled or stored make it the largest facility of its kind in the country and one of the largest in Europe by area. The airport as a whole carried 16.1 million passengers in 2024 and is targeting 16.5 million, with foreign carriers making up about 64 percent of the traffic, which is a different picture from the business-jet side of the field.

Business-jet volume has not recovered. Vnukovo's co-owner has described daily movements at Vnukovo-3 falling from 120-130 before February 2022 to 30-40 today, a threefold drop driven by the closure of European airspace to Russian aircraft. The practical consequence for a client is not congestion, it is choice: apron space is easy, but the pool of operators, aircraft types and crews willing and able to serve Moscow is a fraction of what it was, and that is what moves prices.

The route map has rotated south and east. Before 2022 the most-flown destinations from Vnukovo-3 were Dubai, Riga, Nice, London and Larnaca. Today the working corridors are Dubai, Istanbul, Antalya, Baku, Yerevan, Almaty and Tashkent, plus the domestic sectors to St Petersburg and Sochi. Nice, Geneva and London are not served from Moscow by any aircraft that could then return to Europe, so those journeys are done in two legs with an aircraft change at a permitted hub.

We are direct with clients about the regulatory picture because vagueness helps nobody. EASA advises against Russian airspace west of 60 degrees East at all flight levels. Italy prohibits its operators from the Rostov FIR and from Russian airspace within 200 NM of the Ukrainian border, and France advises the same. Rosaviatsiya has cut the Moscow terminal control area ceiling to 4,900 m and banned transit overflights of the region. Southern airports close at short notice. None of that makes a Moscow flight impossible, and Vnukovo-3 handles dozens of business jets a day, but it does mean the operator selection, the insurance terms and the routing all need to be read before the price is.

Ostafyevo is the alternate most people underestimate. Its 2,058 m runway with PCN 24 rules out heavy aircraft at weight, but for a midsize jet arriving from Istanbul or Baku it is a fast, quiet field 30 km south of the centre with international CIQ and Falcon-certified maintenance on site. Sheremetyevo Terminal A, run by A-Group, is the better answer when the destination is north of the city, and Domodedovo's UTG Private Aviation centre is where longer-term hangarage gets arranged.
