Single runway 16/34 built on an artificial island in the sea, linked to the apron by two taxiway causeways; RWY 34 is 3,360 m and RWY 16 is 3,285 m, both 45 m wide plus 2 x 7.5 m shoulders, at 6.2 m elevation with 99 percent wind coverage. RWY 34 has an ILS CAT II approach and is the preferential runway, used about 88 percent of the time. The airport opened commercially on 9 November 1995 and operates 24 hours; the terminal is rated at 10 million passengers a year and the apron has 25 stands of which 15 are business jet stands, with fire category 9. In 2024 the airport handled 7,641,495 passengers (+48 percent), 59,958 aircraft movements (+41 percent) and 108,105 tonnes of cargo (+69 percent), and revenue rose 24 percent to MOP 1.48 billion (about USD 185 million). Two FBOs operate from the dedicated FBO Building on Avenida Wai Long: Macau Business Aviation Center (MBAC), the original business-aviation handler operating since 22 November 1996, and TAG Aviation Asia (Macau), which opened in January 2019 as TAG's first FBO in Asia Pacific under a concession with the Macau Airport Authority, offering 24-hour handling, private and VIP lounges, crew snooze rooms and showers, hangarage, on-site customs and immigration and line maintenance on Bombardier Global and Gulfstream 450/550/650 types. Menzies Macau Airport Services handles scheduled commercial airlines, and Jet Aviation has held a 10-year MRO concession at the airport since 2015 as a Gulfstream and Dassault authorised service centre.

Joint civil-military field with a single 4,120 m runway 05/23, serving as the mainland-side alternate to Macau. It is a domestic-only airport in practice despite having international facilities, and handled 13,252,642 passengers and 92,419 movements in 2025 after a record year of about 12.97 million passengers in 2024. Airport Authority Hong Kong acquired a 35 percent stake in November 2024. Because it sits in mainland China rather than the Macau SAR, flights there require CAAC landing and overflight permits and separate customs and immigration from Macau.

Empty legs

Repositioning flights from Macau

Macau's private-jet traffic peaks around casino industry events, Chinese New Year, Golden Week and Grand Prix week in mid-November. Aircraft reposition constantly between Macau, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, and the corridors that produce the most empty legs are Macau to Hong Kong, Macau to Shanghai and Beijing, and long westbound legs to Bangkok and Singapore. Flexible dates on those routes save 40-70% against on-demand.

FAQ

Charter from Macau, questions we get

Does Macau have an international airport for private jets?
Yes. Macau International (MFM) is a 24-hour airport with a 3,360 m runway on reclaimed land east of Taipa. It has 25 apron stands of which 15 are dedicated to business aviation, which is a higher private-share than most commercial airports.
How far is Macau airport from the Cotai casino strip?
About 10 to 15 minutes by road. This is one of the shortest airport-to-hotel private-jet transfers in Asia, and it is a large part of why Macau is preferred over Hong Kong for casino industry itineraries.
Which FBOs operate at Macau?
MBAC (Macau Business Aviation Center) and TAG Aviation Asia handle the private side. TAG also operates hangar and MRO. Menzies is the commercial handler. It is a smaller roster than Hong Kong International's but suits the traffic MFM sees.
Can I fly from Macau to mainland China?
Yes, but a mainland China overflight or landing permit is required for that leg, arranged by the handler with typical lead time. Macau itself is a Special Administrative Region with its own aviation authority, so arrivals into MFM alone do not need a mainland permit.
How long is Macau to Singapore by private jet?
About 3 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours on a midsize or super-midsize aircraft. The route is straightforward and one of the busier Southeast Asia business-jet corridors.
Is Macau open 24 hours for private aircraft?
Yes. MFM operates around the clock with no curfew for business aviation, which is one of its real advantages over Hong Kong International for late-night casino industry travel.
What does Macau to Hong Kong cost by private jet?
About 12,000 to 16,000 USD on a light jet for a 20 minute flight. In practice, road via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is often the more sensible option unless the schedule specifically calls for a same-airport aircraft transfer.
What runway length does Macau have?
One runway at 3,360 m. That handles the full business-jet range up to ultra-long-range at high but not maximum weights. For a G650 or Global 7500 at MTOW, some operators prefer to position to Hong Kong International's longer runways for the departure.
Market notes

On chartering from Macau

Macau International Airport is not a big airport by regional standards, but it does one job very well: it is the closest jet-capable field with its own customs and immigration to the Cotai casino strip. The airport was built on reclaimed land east of Taipa and has a single 3,360 m runway with 25 apron stands, 15 of which are designated for business jets. That is an unusually high private-aviation share for a commercial airport.

The FBO scene is small and specific. MBAC (Macau Business Aviation Center) and TAG Aviation Asia's Macau operation handle the private side. TAG Aviation also runs a maintenance and hangar operation there. Menzies is the commercial handler and Jet Aviation has an MRO concession. Compared to Hong Kong International's much deeper handler roster this is a shorter list, but it covers the traffic MFM actually sees.

The airport's 24-hour operation is important. Casino industry travel has a strong late-night character, and neither Hong Kong nor most mainland airports offer round-the-clock business-aviation handling on the same terms. Combined with a 10 to 15 minute road transfer into Cotai, this makes MFM the natural first choice for high-roller and industry itineraries.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, opened in 2018, changed the surrounding logistics materially. Hong Kong International is now about 45 minutes by road from Macau, and Zhuhai in mainland China is about the same. That gives passengers real ground-side flexibility, and for aircraft that need HKG's longer runway for a maximum-fuel departure, positioning between the two airports is a short and predictable leg.
