On chartering from Ankara
Ankara is the diplomatic capital of Türkiye, and the private-aviation product reflects that. Esenboğa handles almost all civilian charter with two parallel 3,750 m runways, H24 operation and customs. Passenger traffic has grown from 3 million a year two decades ago to around 15 million annually. For business missions the field is straightforward: slots required, handling mandatory, and enough runway for any business jet to depart at full weight, with a takeoff performance check for warm-day ULR sectors given the 3,127 ft field elevation.
The rebuilt Ankara Airport (ANK, formerly Etimesgut) is the other side of the story. Türkiye spent roughly USD 120 million over 230 days rebuilding a military airfield into a state and VIP protocol airport, extending the runway from 2,450 m to 3,000 m and widening it from 42 m to 60 m for ICAO Category F wide-bodies. The 160,000 m² apron can park 44 aircraft simultaneously. The field is not available for commercial charter, but its existence changes how state and diplomatic overflow moves through the capital during summits. During the 2026 NATO Leaders' Summit the airport hosted the delegation aircraft.
The Istanbul corridor defines Ankara's charter market. A 43-minute light-jet sector between the two capitals produces steady bidirectional empty-leg supply. Ankara sends 187 movements to Istanbul in a recent 90-day period, and Istanbul returns comparable volume. The domestic Turkish network from Ankara extends to Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman and Izmir in summer. The international corridors are corporate and diplomatic: London, Frankfurt, Moscow, Dubai and Doha, all reachable in a super-mid or midsize jet from Esenboğa's 3,750 m runways.
