Malaga Costa del Sol

Malaga is 8 km south west of the city and operates around the clock, with runway 13/31 at 3,200 m and a second runway 12/30 at 2,750 m, so no business jet is restricted. Private traffic uses the General Aviation Terminal, built from the airport's original passenger building next to the N-340 and refurbished for private jet use. Sky Valet runs a 24 hour FBO in that terminal alongside other licensed handlers.

Gibraltar

Gibraltar is the closer field for Sotogrande and the western Costa del Sol and sits on the isthmus at the Spanish frontier. The single runway 09/27 is 1,776 m of grooved asphalt, which suits turboprops and light jets rather than large cabin aircraft. Since July 2026, following the treaty between the European Union and the United Kingdom, Spain has been applying Schengen controls at the airport, so allow for border formalities that Malaga does not impose.

Ibiza

Ibiza lies 7 km south west of the town with one 2,800 m runway (06/24) and a dedicated General Aviation Terminal. Ground handling is compulsory for every general and business aviation movement and the airport is Level 3 coordinated, so each movement needs a confirmed slot. Hours are 24 during the summer season and 0630 to 2300 from 1 November, with one hour PPR outside those times.

Palma de Mallorca

Palma is the overflow and alternate field for the Balearics rather than a substitute for landing on Ibiza: runways of 3,270 m and 3,000 m, 24 hour operation and considerably more apron. When Ibiza refuses overnight parking, the usual pattern is to disembark on Ibiza and reposition the empty aircraft to Palma until the return leg.

FAQ

Common questions on this route

How long is the flight from Malaga to Ibiza by private jet?
About 1h 10m direct on a light jet over roughly 570 km. A midsize jet is only marginally quicker at around 1h 05m, and a King Air or PC-12 turboprop takes about 1h 30m. Actual block times vary with the Ibiza arrival routing in the summer.
What does a Malaga to Ibiza charter cost?
Turboprops start around 5,500 and run to 7,500 one way for up to six passengers. Light jets sit at 8,500 to 11,500 and midsize jets at 12,500 to 16,000. August weekends price at the top of each band because aircraft are already committed elsewhere in the Balearics.
Is a turboprop a reasonable choice on this route?
Yes. At 570 km the time penalty against a light jet is roughly 20 minutes, and a King Air 350i or PC-12 NGX carries up to six passengers with luggage at a materially lower price. The trade offs are cabin comfort and a lower cruise altitude, which can mean a bumpier ride in summer convection.
Do I need a slot at Ibiza for a short domestic hop?
Yes. Ibiza is a Level 3 coordinated airport, so every business aviation arrival and departure needs a confirmed slot regardless of sector length, and ground handling is compulsory. Slots are issued in narrow windows and the busiest summer weekends are refused rather than delayed.
Which Malaga terminal do private passengers use?
The General Aviation Terminal, which is the airport's original passenger building next to the N-340, refurbished for private aviation and separate from the commercial terminals. Sky Valet operates a 24 hour FBO there, and Malaga's 24 hour airport status means early departures and late returns are straightforward.
Can the aircraft wait on Ibiza while we are on the island?
For a few hours, usually. For an overnight or a weekend in peak season, plan on the aircraft repositioning, most often to Palma de Mallorca. Ibiza limits commercial apron parking to one week between June and September and can require an aircraft to be moved within three hours of a request.
