Business aviation uses the Terminal Ejecutiva (executive/general aviation terminal) in the south zone of the airfield, which opened to private traffic on 1 February 2013 when all business aviation was transferred from Torrejon; the two original concession areas each cover more than 26,000 sq m plus over 58,000 sq m of common area with 50-plus aircraft parking positions. Current confirmed operators at the Terminal Ejecutiva are Sky Valet Madrid-Barajas (three VIP lounges, crew lounge with rest area, dispatch lounge, meeting room, H24 customs), Spanish FBO-Madrid (a consortium of Universal Aviation Spain, United Aviation Service and General Aviation Service, whose renovated GAT opened in December 2019), Universal Aviation Madrid (24/7, IS-BAH Stage II) and General Aviation Service SL; the Spanish AIP also lists Jetex Executive Aviation Spain. Aena's published landing charge at Barajas is 9.082631 EUR per tonne with a 164.63 EUR minimum per operation, rising to 9.741122 EUR per tonne and a 176.57 EUR minimum in the 2026 price guide.

Joint civil-military field shared by the Spanish Ministry of Defence and Aena, with the civil side dedicated primarily to executive, private and state aviation. Single asphalt runway 04/22 of 4,818 m, elevation 2,026 ft, fire category 8, ILS and VOR/DME approaches, Jet A available, PCN 267FAWT. Torrejon was Madrid's main private-jet base with six private terminals until 1 February 2013, when all commercial and general aviation traffic was moved to Barajas; it now handles a much smaller volume of executive, government and military-adjacent movements. Jetex Spain supports flights at LETO with executive lounge, crew lounge, ramp supervision and full dispatch, and FBO directories also list an AviaVIP Madrid-Torrejon facility, but Business Air News currently lists no resident FBOs at the airport, so operator presence should be confirmed per trip.

The oldest airport in Spain, opened in 1911, and today mainly a general aviation, flight-training and flying-club field. Paved runway 09/27 measures 1,500 m x 30 m, with a second 1,127 m x 45 m unpaved strip not approved for civil use; elevation is 2,269 ft. Because of the short runway and surrounding built-up area it accepts only helicopters, piston aircraft, medium turboprops and small business jets, so it is not a practical option for most charter missions out of Madrid.

Empty legs

Repositioning flights from Madrid

Madrid is the natural European gateway to Latin America and the corridors that generate the most empty legs reflect that. Madrid to London, Paris and Milan year round, Madrid to Ibiza and Marbella in the summer, and long westbound legs to Miami, New York and Mexico City when an aircraft is returning to base after positioning east. Flexible dates on these routes save 40-70% against on-demand pricing.

FAQ

Charter from Madrid, questions we get

Which Madrid airport do private jets use?
Barajas (MAD) via the Terminal Ejecutiva in the south zone. All Madrid business aviation has been routed there since February 2013, when Torrejón closed to civil aviation. Cuatro Vientos (MCV) is the smaller-aircraft alternative on the west side of the city.
Is Torrejón still open for private jets?
No. Torrejón (TOJ) has been military and government only since 1 February 2013. Any itinerary that still lists it as a civilian private-jet base is out of date. Route through Barajas.
Is Madrid Barajas open 24 hours?
Yes. Barajas has no movement ban and the Terminal Ejecutiva operates around the clock. This is one of the reasons Madrid is a natural transatlantic base for private aviation, alongside Paris Le Bourget and Amsterdam.
How long is Madrid to New York by private jet?
About 8 hours westbound and 6 hours 45 minutes eastbound on a heavy or ultra-long-range aircraft. Madrid's 4,350 m runways take heavy jets at maximum take-off weight.
Which FBOs operate at Madrid Barajas?
Sky Valet, Universal Aviation, Spanish FBO-Madrid, General Aviation Service and Jetex all handle private-aviation traffic at Barajas. The Terminal Ejecutiva itself is operated by Aena and provides the passenger facilities.
What does Madrid to Ibiza cost on a private jet?
Roughly 12,000 to 15,500 USD on a light jet, at about 1 hour 10 minutes block time. In peak summer weeks the price sits at the top of that range and availability tightens materially.
Can I fly a light jet into Cuatro Vientos?
Yes. Cuatro Vientos suits turboprops, very light jets and light jets on its 1,510 m runway. For a Citation CJ3 or Phenom 300 doing a short domestic hop it is a practical option closer to central Madrid than Barajas.
Do foreign-registered aircraft need permits in Spain?
EASA-registered aircraft use standard European procedures with no additional permit. Non-EASA registrations use the routine European landing-permit process, filed by the handler ahead of the trip.
Market notes

On chartering from Madrid

Madrid's private-aviation setup changed in 2013 when everything moved from Torrejón to Barajas. Aena opened the Terminal Ejecutiva in the south zone that February and Torrejón went back to being a military and government field. That has been the situation for over a decade now, and any operator that still routes you through Torrejón is working from an outdated brief.

Barajas has four runways, two of them 4,350 m, and is open 24 hours a day. That combination puts it in a small European club of transatlantic-capable private bases with no curfew, alongside Paris Le Bourget and Amsterdam. The practical effect is that a G650 arriving from Miami at 2am does not need a special exemption to land, which matters for last-minute schedule changes.

The FBO shortlist at MAD is short and specific: Sky Valet, Universal Aviation, Spanish FBO-Madrid, General Aviation Service and Jetex all operate on the private side. The Terminal Ejecutiva itself is Aena-run and holds the physical passenger and crew facilities, while the FBOs handle aircraft, permits and coordination. Ask for a handler comparison at quote time because service and pricing vary.

Cuatro Vientos on the west side is the small-aircraft alternative. It is a general-aviation field with a 1,510 m runway that suits turboprops, very light jets and light jets. It sits closer to central Madrid than Barajas does, and for a short intra-Iberia hop with a light aircraft it can save 30 minutes of ground time. For anything above a Citation CJ4, use Barajas.
